Hi everyone! I finally found time to create the latest member of my ever growing sphere family. I found accetate quite difficult to work with as it would not stay folded and sprung open very easily. I also had less room for error as once accetate is folded, a very definate crease is left which meant it would be visible if I refolded it another way. Like my previous sphere made from tracing paper, I filled this one with pot pourri. I felt this was more effective in accetate as the shapes, patterns and colours could be seen through. My only criticism is that the surface is very reflective which can distract from the centre filling. Check out my photographs below.
Along side my accetate sphere, I improved on the progress of my leather handbag. I managed to fashion a drawstring without the hassle of the sewing machine and instead used very strong glue which also gave a neater finish. The eyelets were my next challenge. I was determined not to leave my room and tried to hammer through the leather using many unique items... including scissor handles! I eventually realised I would have to brave the spiders in the garage and use a hammer and a stronger work bench. I am pleased with the neat finish from the eyelets however I think I should have punched them lower as this would make it easier to sew the top edge over.
After the eyelets and drawstrings had been successfully added, I began creating the lining. I didnt measure out the lining and instead roughly cut a circular shape and glued it around the top edge, not forgetting my softened carboard base beneath it. In order to complete my bag I need to sew a neat edge around the top and attach the handle... however this may only happen once I make peace with my sewing machine...
Thanks for looking!
Your acetate thing looks really goood! xx
